Citi News sources report that efforts are ongoing to also freeze his international assets.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor initiated inquiries into Sir John’s alleged misconduct regarding his alleged improper acquisition of public lands within the Achimota forest and the Sakumono Ramsar site last week.

In addition, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources stated that it would investigate the provisions of the will pertaining to the land purchase.

Several civil society organisations had requested that the Special Prosecutor and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) investigate the acquisition of state lands.

After he bequeathed state lands to his relatives, the will sparked public outrage.

It went viral on the Internet and angered many Ghanaians.

The appearance of the will followed the disputed declassification and repatriation of portions of the Achimota Forest to their allodial owners.

In a statement issued on May 24, 2022, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources stated that the late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie did not own land in the Achimota Forest or the Sakumono Ramsar Site.
